August 2026

Tuesday 4th August. A nostalgic trip to Mumbles and Swansea University. Once more a tourist on an earlier life, 55 years ago : a naive young student struggling with life and identity, where events shaped my life forever.

Swansea University

In Mumbles, from the Oyster House Hotel, find my old student flat at 556 Mumbles Road. Walk along the front to the demolished site of the old Pier Hotel next to the old Pier.

Wednesday August 5th. Enjoying the headlands and bays of Langland and Caswell, where a confused 22 year old escaped, during the hot August of 1971.

Thursday 13th August. Spot the Buff tip moth caterpillar on Hillcrest. Fascinating creature!

Friday 14th August. A nostalgic return to Rossett, remembering Lee as a three or four year old and where we lived in Travalyn Lodge.

Sunday 16th August. To the Shrewsbury Arms Albrighton for a Roast Turkey lunch.

Tuesday 18th August. A visit to Pattingham vineyard on a cooler grey morning.

Wednesday 19th August. Pass Belle, the dachshund carrier, on our canal circuit via Monarch’s Way.

Friday 21st August. A now rare visit to Belvide, seeing a Speckled Wood butterfly for my 2026 collection.

Friday 28th August. To Senelleys Park for a late summer circuit as tints of autumn echo times gone by, just before the end of the long school holidays.

Did I catch Sticklebacks here?

Sunday 30th August. Down Cresswell Lane as the summer drought has meant an early autumn in Brewood.

Sunday 6th September. A lunch at the Moat House, enjoying their lovely grounds in early autumn sunlight.

Monday 7th September. The Sparrowhawk is an unwelcome predator in our garden.

Wednesday 9th September. Some really welcome rain on our canal.

Saturday 19th September. A brown Parasol with a few others on our playing fields in Brewood.
