Saturday February 3rd. My now usual railway track walk, spotting Sparrows, hearing Great Tit and enjoying the fresh breeze and brighter blue skies.

Wednesday February 7th. The afternoon light is much brighter now at 3pm, watching handsome Magpies and hearing the quite beautiful song of the Song Thrush. Life suddenly feels incredibly good!

Thursday February 8th. Snow arrives to cloak the trees and paths a pristine white on the old railway track. The silent flurries thicken as the afternoon turns murky grey, then in failing light an evening thaw begins.

Friday February 9th. On a muddy, drizzly old railway track the wet bark on tree trunks has a shiny gloss, whilst the fungi looks like rubberised dummies….

Saturday February 10th. One mile along a misty Apperley Bridge canal path, feeding ducks and seeing Parakeets; another step towards normality in an emerging spring.

Sunday February 11th. An afternoon ramble seeing Red Kite overhead in Pudsey once more, and the Song Thrush are singing as loud as ever.

Monday February 12th. On a slightly longer walk today in very bright sunshine a Goldfinch sings loudly and a Crow takes an aerial view. Snowdrops flourish in our garden.

Wednesday 14th February. A canal stroll with Julie, feeding the ducks, spotting an Egret, and enjoying the light on the moss on a wall.

Thursday February 15th. My now usual walk along the old railway track on a very mild 15° afternoon. A Starling and a Blackbird pose nicely.

Monday February 19th. Short walk around Pudsey Park, admiring the crocus.

Thursday February 22nd. More Pudsey Park, blossom emerging daily. Fun with swing images too.

Friday February 23rd. Apperley Bridge canal walk on a bright late winter morning seeing the two white goats and feeding ducks, Canada Geese and a female Goosander.

Saturday February 24th. Crocuses loving the sunshine in Pudsey Park.

Monday February 26th. More crocus, impressionist style.

Wednesday February 28th. Visit Rodley reserve, in late winter dormancy, seeing seeds along the canal and an elusive, singing Wren.

Thursday February 29th. A brief visit to St Aidens to spot a distant Black-necked Grebe, seeing also a Common Pochard and close flying Kestrel.
