Tuesday July 1st. A walk to Boscobel House from White Ladies, alongside the conservation margins, luxuriously rich with wild flowers and butterflies. On a humid, cloudy morning see huge numbers of Whites, and a lovely variety of other butterflies including several Marbled White.

Thursday July 3rd. Visit Daneway Banks in Gloucestershire trying to find the Large Blue. So disappointing as there are none around despite ideal conditions. See nice Silver Washed Fritillary though, and lots of Marbled White.

Friday July 4th. Daisy Duck is back!

Sunday July 6th. Summer reflections on the canal. A Kingfisher delights flying ahead of us, stopping now and again.

Wednesday July 9th. A day in Birmingham, admiring the gleaming new buildings and comparing the city to the what it looked like 60 years ago.

Saturday July 12th. A Banded Demoiselle visits our washing line!

Sunday July 13th. An humid evening trip to Lichfield Cathedral.

Wednesday July 16th. My annual trip to Bescot to watch Villa v Walsall in really warm evening light.

Thursday July 17th. Cannock Chase on a warm drizzly morning.

Friday July 18th. A summer evening apero with the wasps at the Oakley Arms. But a geese is missing!

Wednesday July 23rd. A venture into mid Wales to Lake Vyrnwy, a huge reservoir, 90 mins away. A cool grey day and not much to see.

Saturday July 26th. A visit to a new nature reserve wetland, the Doxley marshes. Very pleasant circular walk, with hides and lots of accessible wetland areas.

Monday July 28th. A morning stroll across the fields from the Sandbeds, admiring the dark summer green Oak. In the garden enjoy the butterflies visiting our buddleia.

Wednesday 30th July. To Penkridge for a noisy walk along the Worcestershire-Staffordshire canal. Imagining events when the canal was built in 1772.

Thursday 31st July. Once more to Birmingham to view the Staffordshire Hoard. And meander around a vibrant city centre.
